Your family's information should be handled with the same care you handled it.

What Vigils stores

When you create a memorial, we store your account email and the information you choose to add: the deceased's name, dates, religion, location, photo, obituary text, your planning checklist, the family members you invite, and any documents you upload. Photos and documents are stored in encrypted cloud storage (Supabase). All traffic is encrypted in transit (HTTPS) and at rest.

What Vigils never does

• We do not sell your data. Not to advertisers, not to data brokers, not to anyone.
• We do not show ads on Vigils. Ever.
• We do not market funeral homes, cemeteries, caskets, urns, or insurance to you.
• We do not contact your invited family members for any purpose other than the invitation you sent.
• We do not retain your information after you delete a vigil. Deleted vigils are removed from our database within 30 days.

Who can see a memorial

Every vigil has a privacy setting controlled by the owner: Listed appears in the public memorials directory and is indexable by search engines. Unlisted is reachable only with the direct URL and is not indexed. Private is reachable only by signed-in family members invited to the record. The default for new vigils is unlisted. You can change this any time from the vigil's settings.

Payments

Vigils is free for families. The optional Planning Pack ($49 one-time) is processed by Stripe. Vigils never sees your card number; Stripe handles the entire payment flow. We store only the Stripe customer ID and the amount of the transaction.

Donations to the family

If a family enables donations on their vigil page, contributions go directly to the family's connected Stripe account. Vigils takes a 1% platform fee on top of Stripe's standard processing fee, which is disclosed at the time of donation. Donor names and amounts are visible to the family and shown publicly only if the donor opts in.

Your rights

You can export, edit, or permanently delete any vigil you own at any time from its settings page. You can also delete your account, which deletes every vigil you own, by emailing us at the address below. We will confirm deletion within 7 days.
